Mendix Performance on SAP HANA Cloud - MxWorld2020 live!

I was told twenty thousand users had registered for the event, so even if you assume that only 30% were watching live (a percentage I randomly chose), that still means I presented to six thousand people at once. Of course it’s a bit different when you present from the comfort of your computer screen vs in person but still it was pretty cool and I felt like a YouTube personality for 30 minutes!

Mendix approached me for “Art of the Possible” use cases after my initially accepted use case was put on the back-burner due to COVID-19 shutting down #MendixWorld2020 as originally planned in Rotterdam. I asked Greg Sprowles, a Sr. Manager in my RAD practice that I lead, to help me answer a few questions about Mendix on SAP HANA Cloud:

  • Does it make a practical difference to use HANA as the database to Mendix where it could be worthwhile?

  • If it does make a difference, do developers need to do anything special to take advantage of it?

For those familiar with HANA, the answers will probably not surprise you, but you might be surprised how significant the results were from our testing. It certainly got us thinking about use cases. We have felt that HANA as an appliance could be much more useful to even non-SAP use cases in certain situations. I’ve been working closely with SAP and Mendix for many years now so it was great to shine a light on HANA when I know so many in the Mendix community have never seen anything like it before.

Once you’ve watched the video, what sort of use cases or ideas spring to mind? What would you test or how would you test differently? Add a comment below and let me know!
